Parking along Leyte highways, prohibited

Leyte — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte First Engineering District Office has prohibited parking along the national highways in the first district of Leyte.

According to First District Engineer Johnny M. Acosta, he has three personnel deputized by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Eastern Visayas to administer the parking ban. He also said that no-parking signs have been put up along the highways.

The Presidential Decree No. 17 prohibits the use of a national highway as a parking area.

“DPWH has already coordinated with the local government units in Leyte to assist them in imposing the no-parking rule,” said Acosta.

He said that the highways in Leyte’s first district have been widened to accelerate the traffic flow, especially in the town of Palo.

In the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Duterte, he ordered various government agencies to boost up the no-parking drive in Metro Manila and other regional centers in the country.
