DOH 8 to stop HIV dissemination in the region

TACLOBAN CITY  — The Department of Health in Region VIII is doing everything to stop the dissemination of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Eastern Visayas.

The Chief of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of DOH-8, Boyd Cerro said that there are 25 recent cases of HIV that are listed in the region.

Tacloban City has the most number of reported cases of HIV in Region 8, with men being most of the victims. Abstinence and caution are two of the things advised by the DOH-8 in order to avoid acquiring HIV.

Furthermore, the department is having trials with the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PREP). It is believed that it can help prevent contamination.

There are already several people who died because of HIV, according to the record of DOH-8.
