The Story Behind Redoña Residence

redoña residence

There are many historical buildings built years ago in the City of Tacloban, one of those is the Redoña Residence. Here is a brief history of the Redoña Residence or the Osmeña House.

The Redoña Residence is at T. Claudio St., Tacloban City. It was the official residence of President Sergio Osmeña Sr., in the province of Leyte, together with the American Liberation Forces in 1944 during the Liberation from the Japanese Campaign.

After President Sergio Osmeña Sr. vacated the house, it was again an ordinary house of the Redoña Family. But, as time goes by, the house was deteriorating slowly.

Sometimes, people often consider the building as a haunted house. I asked some people what the first thing that comes to mind when they hear “Redoña Residence”. The common answer is, “Aw! An haunted house!” (Oh! The haunted house!). It is sad to know that this kind of historical building is considered as a scary haunted house because of its creepy aura and because of the house’s deteriorating condition.

Today, the building is converted into a boarding house for people looking for a place to stay within the city. The house needs renovation to preserve and to prevent the total deterioration of the house.

How to get there:

There are many tricycles that are available within the downtown area. The fare is just 8.00 PHP per person. Just tell them that you are going to the Redoña Residence at T. Claudio St. near the exit of Gaisano Central Mall and Ultra Diagnostic.
