Makati police extortionists caught in an entrapment operation

Four Makati policemen were put to prison after being caught in the act of receiving money from their alleged extortion victims in Parañaque on May 9.

The PNP Counter Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) conducted an entrapment operation after the complaint of the couple who was allegedly arrested, extorted, and threatened by the suspects.

According to the male victim, they were arrested while they were in Pasay City. Suddenly, there was a man who approached them and introduced himself as a policeman, but he was not wearing his uniform.

They were forced to ride a black car. The male victim thought they will be brought to the police station, but they were brought somewhere else.

He added that the policemen demanded P400,000 in exchange for their freedom. The victims allegedly begged since they cannot afford such a large amount. They negotiated with the police to lower it to P250,000.

The male victim was convinced by the police to pawn his car just to pay them. They were released after depositing P100,000, but they have been threatened, including the lives of their family, if they will not immediately give the remaining amount.

The victims reported the incident to the PNP-CITF, and entrapment operation was conducted. PO2 Harley Garcera, PO2 Clarence Maynes, PO1 Tim Santos, and PO1 Jeffrey Caniete were eventually caught and were put in jail.

The suspects were charged with kidnapping and robbery extortion. The authorities are still searching for their conspirators who are an active police, a retired police, and two civilians.

The PNP-CITF is encouraging other people who were victims of the same crime to file a complaint. It is possible that the suspects have already victimized several people.
