Creating Text On a Path Using Photoshop

In this tutorial, we will learn how to create a text type on a path in Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CC but this is also fully compatible with Photoshop CS6 and even in Photoshop CS5. To add a path, we first need a path, in creating this path, we will use the available shapes in the tool palette and text type tool. I have here a step-by-step process of how to do this.

This will be the image that I will be using in this tutorial. Open the image that you will use for this activity.

Step 1: Select the Shape Tool

In the tool palette, choose the shape that you wanted to use as the path that the text will be using. For this tutorial, I will use the ellipse tool so I can have a circle shape that is similar to the Christmas ball in the Image that I will be using in the entire tutorial.

Step 2: Draw the Shape

draw-ellipse

Assuming that you are also using an image with a ball, draw a circle that is a little bigger than the ball in your image.

Step 3: Choose Path Selection Tool

We will use the Path Selection Tool to select the path of the Ellipse that you have drawn. So click in the ellipse using the said tool. You will 4 dots or diamond around the ellipse.

Step 4: Choose Text Type Tool

Choose the Horizontal Type tool so that you can add a text in the path. But before clicking, you have to see to it that the cursor is like this.

Step 5: Start Typing the Text

text

Click on the path you see in the outline of the ellipse. If you click the right path you will notice that the text will follow the path of the ellipse. You can adjust the font size and font style in the character palette.

Step 6: Remove the Shape

Just click on the eye icon of the shape in the layer palette so that it will not be visible. The path will remain as it is. After doing this steps, we are finished with this tutorial. You have to save it as .jpg or (JPEG) to create an image file.

Final Output
