Thesis Defense Tips

Defending your thesis can be a very stressful experience as a student. Here are some tips for you to have a successful Thesis Presentation and Defense.

Eye Contact

eyetoeye

Doing eye contact can help you concentrate because if your eyes are wandering, it will be sending random images or ideas that are sent to your brain that will slow down the data process in your brain. One thing, if you don’t make eye contact with the panelists, you will look less believable.

Dress Well

dress-for-success

You should wear something presentable and appropriate in an office environment. In a thesis defense, it is like you are convincing a client to buy your product or to invest in your company, so you have to impress them with your attire because it is the first thing that they can see in you.

Don’t be too Conceited

Don’t be too conceited in front of your panelists because it will be a reason for them to be fired up questions that you might fail to answer. If you are asked to discuss the functions of your study don’t say everything, just discuss only the things that need to be clarified.

Anticipate Problems in Advance

Anticipate problems that could arise during your defense. You should think of the most challenging questions that they might ask you then try to find answers to the questions that you have anticipated so that if the panelists would ask that, you will not be freezing up.

Know your Material

This will be your best weapon in facing the panelists. Knowing your material is the strongest defense you can ever have. Before answering the question of the panelists, you have to stay centered, take a while to gather your ideas, breath and begin discussing.
