Tips to Avoid Toxic People In Your Life

Some people can be stressful sometimes. Avoiding them can be hard if you don’t know how to do it properly. They are everywhere; you may encounter some of them in school, work, and even in your family. Here are some ways you can do to avoid them in your everyday life:

Don’t be too nice

Being nice is good, but being too nice is not healthy. In this world, toxic people tend to take advantage of the goodness that is favored on them. It doesn’t mean that you have to be harsh or cruel to them, but you don’t have to go out of your way to be overly accommodating.

Don’t argue; just know your boundaries

It is really tempting to argue or fight with toxic people. To avoid this, you have to promise yourself that you will not engage into any  arguments. You should set your boundaries then end the communication. Don’t try to have a debate just to let that person leave you alone. You only have to lessen the reason why they keep on bothering you. Don’t feed on them!

Don’t expect them to change

Avoiding toxic people requires acceptance that you can’t force them to change. This might give you the idea that maybe they can change a bit, or you will be the one who can help them change for the better, but this will not help. This is almost always a hopeless way. Toxic people are not motivated by just telling what’s good for them; they are motivated by their own needs and problems.  It is much easier to let them go rather than hope that they will change.

Choose your battles carefully

Battles with toxic people need a lot of energy and time. You have to choose your battles wisely. Always remember that you don’t need to engage in every fight. Rather, save your energy looking after yourself and taking care of relationships that are genuinely healthy.

Stay in healthy relationships

Avoiding toxic people in your life can be very painful because despite how difficult they are to handle, you still care for them. To maintain your strength and to cope with the pain, stay close to the people who make you feel happy and safe. These people will give you healthy friendships and relationships. They will keep on reminding you why you chose to dump the toxic ones.
